24 Northern Wainwrights

1 Skiddaw 931m

Skiddaw is the highest wainwright in the northern fell and the 4th highest wainwright in all the 214 wainwrights. Skiddaw is an iconic peak in the northern skyline and can be seen from the southern lakes in some areas.. It is situated just above the town Keswick
2 Blencathra 868m

Blencathra is the 2nd highest peak in the northern fells and the 14th highest wainwright in the 214. Blencathra is located on the eastern side of the Lake District northern skyline. Blencathra also known as Saddleback has six separate fell tops, of which the highest is the Hallsfell the wainwright peak.


3 Skiddaw Little Man 865m

Skiddaw Little Man is the 3rd highest mountain in the northern fells and the 15th highest of all the wainwrights. Skiddaw Little man also known as Little Man is located just to the east of its parent peak Skiddaw. Skiddaw Little Man is situated above Keswick.
4 Carl Side 746m

Carl Side is the 4th highest wainwright of the northern fells and the 64th highest of all 214 wainwrights. Carl Side is situated underneath Skiddaw which towers above. Carl Side is one of two other fells in close proximity that lie underneath Skiddaw, These fells are Long Side and Ullock Pike.


5 Long Side 734m

Long Side is the 5th highest of the northern fells and the overall 71st highest of all the wainwrights. Long Side is located just west of Carl Side, A bit further to the west of Long Side is Ullock Pike. These three peaks are along a ridge going west to east, with Skiddaw towering above them all.
6 Lonscale Fell 715m

Lonscale Fell is the 6th highest of the northern fells and the 80th highest fell of all the wainwrights. Lonscale fells is located at the very east of the Skiddaw massive. The narrow valley between Lonscale Fell and Blease Fell one of Blencathas six peaks is the only thing that seperates the two giant northern skylines.


7 Knott 710m

Knott is the 7th highest of the northern fells and the 82nd highest of all the wainwrights. The Knott is located behind Skiddaw to the north it is the highest point beyond the northern skyline of both Skiddaw and Blencathra.
8 Bowscale Fell 702m

Bowscale Fell is the 8th highest wainwright in the northern fells and the 87th highest peak in all the wainwrights. Bowscale is located behind Blencathra to the north east above the village Mungrisdale. Bowscale fell is the highest peak of all the peaks located behind Blencathra.


9 Great Calva 690m

Great Calva is the 9th highest peak of the northern fells and the 95th highest of all the wainwrights. Great Calva is located right at the centre of the northern fells, behind Skiddaw and Blencathra. Great Calva is a very isolated fell due to its remote location.
10 Ullock Pike 690m

Ullock Pike is the 10th highest fell in the northern wainwrights and the 96th highest of all the wainwrights. Ullock Pike is located on a ridge with two other wainwrights, Long Side and Carl Side which are situated inbetween Keswick and Skiddaw. Ullock Pike is the smallest peak on this ridge and the most western.


11 Bannerdale Crags 683m

Bannerdale Crags is the 11th highest fell of the northern wainwrights and the 97th highest peak of all the wainwrights. Bannerdale crags is located in between Blencatha and Bowscale Fell.
12 Bakestall 673m

Bakestall is the 12th highest of the northern fells and the 101st highest of all the wainwrights. Bakestall is and isolated peak within the fells behind Skiddaw. Bakestall has a path that leads directly to the summit of Skiddaw.


13 Carrock Fell 663m

Carrock Fell is the 13th highest of the northern fells and the 105th highest of all the wainwrights. Carrock Fell is located behind Blencathra above the village of Mungrisdale. Carrock Fell has a path that directly links onto High Pike. These two fells are often summited in the same walk.
14 High Pike 656m

High Pike is the 14th highest peak of the northern fells and the 109th highest of the 214 wainwrights. High Pike is located behind the Blencathra skyline. It is the northern most peak of the fells behind Blencathra and has a direct path which leads onto Carrock fell to the east.


15 Great Sca Fell 651m

Great Sca Fell is the 15th highest peak of the northern fells and the 114th highest in the northern fells. Great Sca Fell is located to the south west of Calbeck. It is the highest of the four peaks in Udale behind Skiddaw, consisting of Longlands Fell, Meal Fell and Great Cockup.
16 Mungrisdale Common 633m

Mungrisdale Common is the 16th highest peak of the northern fells and the 122nd highest of all the wainwrights. Mungrisdale Common is located behind Blencatha to the north west. Mungrisdale is quite and isolated and boggy wainwright which is a large plateau, although its name may suggest it is near Mungrisdale, it is the furthest peak away from the village out of all the fells behind Blencathra.


17 Brae Fell 586m

Brae Fell is the 17th highest peak of the northern fells and the 134th highest of all the wainwrights. Brae Fell is located at the back of Skiddaw it is just south of Caldbeck and just outside of the Udale fells.
18 Meal Fell 550m

Meal Fell is the 18th highest fell in the northern wainwrights and the 149th highest of the 214 wainwrights. Meal fell is located within the Udale fells at the back of Skiddaw. It is the second highest of the 4 fells consisting of Longlands Fell, Great Cockup and Great Sca Fell.


19 Great Cockup 526m

Great Cockup is the 19th highest northern wainwright and the 159th highest of all the wainwrights. Great Cockup is located within the Udale fells at the back of Skiddaw. It is the third highest of the 4 fells consisting of Longlands Fell, Meal Fell and Great Sca Fell.
20 Souther Fell 522m

Souther Fell is the 20th highest peak within the northern fells and the 163rd highest of all of the wainwrights. Souther Fell is located behind Blencatha to the south of Mungrisdale, it is the smallest wainwright which is located at the back of Blencathra.


21 Dodd 502m

Dodd is the 21st highest of the 24 northern fells and the overall 175th highest wainwright. Dodd is located right underneath Skiddaw and the three ridge peaks, Carl Side, Long Side and Ullock Pike. There is a rangers tracks through the woods which leads almost all the way to the summit.
22 Longlands Fell 483m

Longlands Fell is the 22nd highest fell of the northern wainwrights and the 179th highest of the 214 wainwrights. It is located within the 4 Udale fells at the back of Skiddaw and is the smallest one of the four. Longlands Fell is the northernmost wainwright of the 214.


23 Binsey 447m

Binsey is the 23rd highest or second smallest of the 24 northern fells and the 192nd highest of all the wainwrights. Binsey is the most isolated of the northern fells and is often done as a solo venture. It is located to the far west of the northern fells. From the summit you receive good views of the fells behind Skiddaw.
24 Latrigg 368m

Latrigg is the smallest of the 24 northern fells and the 206th highest of the 214 wainwrights. Latrigg is situtated just in the Skiddaw group immeditally above Keswick. The Summit is void of rock and has grassy slopes which offer incredible views of Keswick below.
